Medical Clinic At Watoto’s Suubi Village Officially Opened

Watoto officially opened the medical clinic at Suubi Children’s Village amid cheering and merry-making from children, mothers, Watoto staff, representatives from the local government and Watoto partners.

A symbolic cream bandage in the place of a ribbon was cut through as a representation of Watoto’s holistic care as it opens doors to the needy with impeccable medical services.

Desiree Stewart, the Watoto Team Leader for Medical Services commented, “I want to thank God for all that He has helped us accomplish. We are also deeply grateful to our partners for their support in such an outstanding way.”

A special tribute was made to Watoto’s long term medical partner Dr. Sebbaale A. Kato of Case Medical Centre in Kampala, who has provided free medical services to Watoto children for the last 15 years.

The medical clinic named “Good Shepherd” was constructed with generous donations from First United Methodist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma and South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri, USA.

The opening of the clinic will improve the delivery of health services to the communities that surround Suubi Children’s Village. Currently, the clinic serves over 1,200 Watoto children, mothers, teachers and administrative staff who reside in the village.

“We appreciate Watoto for the good working relationship with the local government; we are more than ready to support and work with you whenever you need help,” said Dr. Ruth Nasanga, the District Health Officer of Mpigi district.

In 2012, the clinic will expand to serve the surrounding communities with out patient care and public health initiatives like cervical cancer screening and immunisation.
